I've been considering posting the politics, profanity, and small irritations somewhere beyond The Paddle; ensconcing them comfortably in a seperate location. But where? It should have been obvious enough that another blog housing a more opinionated version of World events as they unfold, before my very eyes, on the gouche side of the Potomac would be the answer. I was listening to some talk the other day and it reminded me that a blog can, and often should, function in a less edited and more timely environment when addressing issues that one wants to pick apart for political or cultural reasons. It can be a vehicle for either affirming or contradicting the events of they day; it can be a means of debate amongst a community ranging from one - if I'm merely pushing ones and zeroes into the blogosphere - to hundreds. I'm sure there are Paddle entries that seem over-the-top and too much like cultural and political beatdowns that some may not be much interested in reading, and I think that's a fair enough point. If you think there may have been too much, or not enough, politics over there then you'd be surprised to know that at least a hundred posts or ideas never came to light because I didn't feel I needed to beat anyone over the head with my crazy views of the World. The main idea behind The Paddle was to keep the distant stars of my life aware of what was happening through my days. Now I can pull the two apart by merely choosing to post in one place of the t'other when I finish typing a tale.
I tried to simply call this The Punt but someone (I assumed an Englishman) had stolen my brilliant idea. I made a small addition and here we stand...or sit. Just in case anyone asks you "Why did he call it that?", please refer them to this definition:
“A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for use in small rivers or other shallow water.”
I'll only go into the shallow political waters of easy running rivers - I'll leave the deep-water commentary to Andrew Sullivan and the folks over at Politico.
P.S. I've used my analytical skills to ascertain that The Punt page here at Blogger is owned by "Joe Blow". He created it 3 1/2 years ago and has gone missing . I hate Joe Blow.
So we begin...
